1st Mission Arena in Sweden | BlueMissionBANOS
Blue Mission BANOS’ 1st Mission Arena will take place on 14–16 November in Gothenburg, Sweden, aiming to inspire, engage, and support a wide range of stakeholders from the Baltic and North Sea regions in accelerating the transition toward a carbon-neutral and circular blue economy by 2030, in line with the EU Mission Ocean objectives.
This dynamic event will feature interactive sessions, workshops, demonstrations, pitching events, investor calls, and study visits, and will act as a laboratory for co-creation. The Arena will explore:
- Innovative solutions to pressing marine and coastal challenges
- Local, regional, and national approaches to circular blue economy development
- Concrete pathways toward Mission Ocean’s success

- Blue food, bioresources, biotechnology
- Low-trophic aquaculture and products
- Ocean and coastal planning
- Multi-use solutions
- Renewable energy
- Citizen engagement
Participants will dive into discussions on:
- Existing technical solutions and innovation gaps
- Finance, funding, and sustainable business models
- Regulation and governance—who decides what and where
- Matchmaking and showcasing between business, government, science, and citizens (B2B, B2G, B2S, C2B&G&S)
🌊 CrossGov’s Contribution
As part of the official programme, CrossGov will take part in the session:
“Safeguarding Biodiversity: Strengthening MPAs, policy coherence, and community involvement”, co-organised with the MSP4BIO, BLUE4ALL, and CoolBlue projects.
Dr. Froukje Maria Platjouw from the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA)—CrossGov’s coordinating partner—will contribute to the sub-session:
“Marine Protected Areas & Marine Spatial Planning Integration”.
She will join a panel of experts including Jacek Zaucha (University of Gdańsk) and Jan Schmidtbauer Crona (SwAM), to explore how improved policy coherence can enhance the alignment between marine protection efforts and spatial planning frameworks.
