CrossGov Bids Farewell: Three Years of Advancing Ocean Governance

After three years of research, collaboration, and dialogue, the CrossGov project comes to a close!

From climate targets to marine restoration, European Union policies and directives often intersect, overlap, and sometimes even contradict one another. Funded by the EU Horizon Europe programme, CrossGov set out to understand how Europe can make marine governance more coherent, cross-compliant, and effective.

From the Oslofjord to the French Mediterranean, our consortium brought together scientists, policymakers, and governance experts to identify where marine and water policies align and where they fragment.

Through our findings, we’ve contributed to the knowledge base for the upcoming Ocean Pact, offering pathways toward more integrated governance that bridges silos across EU directives, from the MSFD and CFP to the WFD and MSPD.

This video, presented by our project coordinator Froukje Maria Platjouw, captures the essence of our work: What we learned, what we built, and how our work will continue to inform future EU ocean governance.
